The Mural
Located on the wall directly behind the pulpit is a large pastoral mural painted by Will Carpenter, who was a member of the church. Mr. Carpenter also helped to build the church using both his carpentry and stone mason skills.
Described as a gentle, good, and honest man, Will was well known for the beautiful landscapes he painted. He is quoted as saying that he never looked at anything as a model when painting; he just had the picture in his head.
Mr. Carpenter also enjoyed keeping bees and caring for his apple orchard. Though he usually painted in private, he loved telling/teaching others about how to care for bees, tree grafting, and cider-making.
Mr. Carpenter's paintings can still be seen today hanging in many homes in and around the Belwood Community. He sold many of his paintings and also presented many as gifts
to people he knew. At least one of his paintings can be seen at the Belwood Museum.
Knob Creek Church feels very fortunate to have Mr. Carpenter's talent on permanent display in
its sanctuary.
